Honeymoon, family holiday, vacation letttings in rental villas, aparmtents to rent or self-catering accommodation at Como, Lake Como, Italy,

Como was made a part of the Roman empire in AD 172 and its long history has left a wonderful collection of reminders of its development: medieval city walls, a circular street structure, buildings and towers from the Renaissance period, a cathedral that took nearly 4 centuries to complete and the unchangeable backdrop of the lake and mountains.

The town is the gateway to the lake area, having direct rail access to Milan and ferry access to all points of the lake. On Saturdays the regular market winds itself around the old city walls and one can usually find designer clothes at heavily discounted prices. Furthermore, Como produces 80% of Europe's silk, an industry that began in the 14th century, and there are many fine boutiques offering latest designs to the public.

In addition to the many features in town, Como is perfect as a base to discover the attractions around the lake. At a few minutes travel are many famous villas and gardens. A vertical train (funicular) provides an easy opportunity to get a birds eye view from above, whilst the magical towns of Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio are easily accessed by ferry from the marina.
