Vacation accommodation in self-catering villas and holiday apartments at Menaggio, Cernobbio, Bellagio, Varenna, Como, , Italy

Lakes, Lake Como

Shaped like a star with three points, Lake Como is pleasantly positioned 75 klm north of Milan, on the border of Switzerland. It is Europes deepest lake and as a result the area enjoys a favoured climate - in parts sub-tropical, complete with palm trees, olive trees, citrus trees and bougainvillaea.

In March, azaleas, rhododendrons, camellias make for a stunning display and there’s no shortage of things to do year round - exploring the lakeside and mountain villages, gardens, watersports, hiking or just soaking up the sun and relaxing.

Why Como

  • Refined, elegant environment with an abundance of things to do
  • Picturesque and lush
  • Favourable climate

Como and Lecco are the principal towns on the southern tips of each of the points, whilst Bellagio occupies a prominent position on a headland in the middle of the lake.
It has been said of the three branches that the northern (Colico) branch is savage and pure, the Como branch (SW) refined and elegant and the Lecco branch (SE) a natural jewel.

The western bank is well known as the golden road to Switzerland and as a consequence has been home to many of the rich and famous of the past centuries, more recently Versace and now George Clooney.

Further up the west coast are the villages of Argegno, Menaggio and a series of antique lakeside villages described by one traveller as 'capturing the collective essence of the entire experience'. It is in this area where we have concentrated our collection of holiday villas and apartments for rent.

Things to do

  • Visit the various towns and villages around the lake
  • Go hiking in the surrounding hills
  • Take a day trip to Milan or Switzerland
