Palazzo Comboni

Lakes - Lake Garda - Toscolano Maderno

The picturesque villages of Toscolano and Maderno on the shores of Lake Garda enjoy a particular microclimate that provides temperate climatic conditions year around. A characteristic of the area are the fragrant lemon groves that together with the olives are unusual in these latitudes. Palazzo Comboni is a heritage villa with Venetian styling and fully frescoed from the C18th, with a glorious garden on the lakes edge and adjacent to the tiny port of Maderno.

Description

The small cobbled streets of the old village of Toscolano lead down to a small piazza at the old port where some fishermen still keep their small wooden boats. On the right, just prior to the port, two antique wooden doors open into a large cobbled entrance foyer with space for two cars which is the private entrance of Apartment Comboni. Doors open directly onto the lakeside gardens, or to the left is a wide staircase leading up to the 'piano nobile' occupying the entire first floor.

The entire Palazzo Comboni has four stories. On the ground floor are two small independent apartments with separate entrances. The second floor is occupied by the owner and on the third floor there are three apartments which have separate entrances from a small side road. All guests of the Palazzo have access to the internal garden and each of the three internal apartments have a reserved outdoor table each. A large outdoor table under a shaded pergola on the lake edge is for exclusive use of our guests.

Internally, the apartment is richly frescoed with vivid and colourful depictions of heroic deeds and glorious scenes, complimented by the rich tones of the hand made cotto floors and antique furniture. Large shuttered windows enjoy views over the gardens and lake to the east, the tiny port and up the western shore on the north and the cobbled streetscape and nearby Mount Pizzocolo to the west. A large lounge room with stunning frescoes sits at one end of the apartment and provides alluring views of the lake and the comings and goings of the small port.

A narrow furnished balcony runs nearly the length of the apartment, shaded by large cypress trees and overlooks the garden and the lake. The balcony opens into a small sitting room furnished with a divan, and TV and an open reading room. A large formal dining room, richly frescoed with an open fireplace and antique dining table for eight guests is adjacent to the reading room.

The apartments two double, twin, and further small bedroom sleep a total of 7 guests who share 3 bathrooms. The kitchen, with large breakfast table is well equipped with utensils and includes a dishwasher, electric ovens hob and a large refrigerator. A set of stairs behind the kitchen lead down a set of stairs to the third bathroom with washing machine.

The centre of Toscolano is a brief stroll away and there is a lovely small beach within 50 m of the entrance of the villa that is ideal for swimming (pebbles, not sand). The nearest sandy beach is approximately 2km away.
