Nearby Lake Garda, Verona has the second oldest Roman arena, was the fabled home to Romeo and Juliet and is famed for its beautiful marbled streets and buildings. During the summer, the famous open air opera at the Verona Arena is one of Italy's great cultural experiences. Considered by many to be one of Italy's most liveable cities, it is at the gateway to Lake Garda, an hour by train to Venice, and the famous Valpolicella wine region is nearby.
